DESCRIPTION:
The Food Marketing Institute reports that nearly 2 million shopping carts (trollies) are stolen each year in the United States, translating into a per-store loss of $8,000 to $10,000 annually, and that's only in the food industry. Like all industries, the cost is passed on to the consumer.
Return Shopping Carts to the Store Month is about returning the carts that have wandered off or have been borrowed and have yet to be returned. It's also about safety. Children will often play with the carts left on the streets or in vacant lots unchaperoned. Animals can get wound up in them, and they can roll away into traffic or cause other hazards. Mark this month and help your local retailer out by returning a shopping cart to the store.
